UrStyle & Austin’s 48Hour Film Festival

A few weeks ago I had an amazing opportunity to work on a short film called "The Fix" by Invenio Films, for Austin's 48 Hour Film Festival. So proud of our short, it was the "Audience Award Winner" & tied for "Best Director." http://www.48hourfilm.com/austin/

I was a Wardrobe Assistant on the film & an extra in the final scene. My experience started Friday night at 7pm after a full day of teaching. I was both excited and nervous. There were definitely several pep talks on the car ride there.

Our assignment: Men & Women's Wardrobe for a gritty 1940's Film Noir

Glam: The excitement & buzz of a movie set and all that comes along with it: clothes/hair/makeup/food

Not so Glam: The hours were long & sweaty; there was a lot of waiting around between scenes

My Reality: I absolutely loved the whole experience!

As two very talented friends have recently said,

"When you do what you love and use your GOD GIVEN TALENT, it doesn't feel at all like work!" ~Norma Chapa

"It is food for your soul." ~ Lindsay White

I felt so alive and energized while on set! I learned that I had other talents that will be very useful to my career as a fashion stylist; one of them being that I enjoy organization, which helps the process tremendously.

While the people on screen look polished & glamorous, pan behind the scenes and you'll find the wardrobe department going over every detail, for every character, for every scene. Gathering tons of options, sorting through piles of clothing, inventorying, lugging stacks of clothes from set to set, gathering sweaty used items, sorting them, inventorying everything again, and lastly returning things back clean and fresh.

It is amazing how much time anything worthwhile takes, yet when it looks great it seems effortless. As I continue gathering fashion experiences, I'll continue investing the time into what I love, and in return I know my clients will emerge looking effortless & feeling amazing.
